Announcements
Thanks to all those who made the trip through all the construction this past Saturday to Memphis! We had a great representation to help cheer on our kids! They put on a great show and finished well among some very tough competition! This is the 2nd highest placement the GC Band has ever achieved at the Memphis Contest!
THIS IS STATE WEEK! This is the week we have worked toward since the first note was played on this show back in May/June. It's an exciting time for the students, staff, and you the parents as you get tp see all of the hard work that has been put into this show come to an end on Saturday at the Division I State Championships held in Murfreesboro!
Room Money for State is due TOMORROW! We have to get the check to the hotel so please send your money TOMORROW! See Sharon's previous email as to how much your student owes for his/her room!
On Tuesday we will rehearse in the stadium from 6-9 pm. Each student should have his/her polo on as their top layer of clothes so that everyone looks the same at rehearsal. We have asked several folks to come in and critique the band so it's VERY IMPORTANT that each student is present. Students will be dismissed after school so they can work on homework BEFORE rehearsal @ 6.
We have Full Band Rehearsal on Wednesday from 3-5 due to the football game being on Thursday.
On Thursday we have our final home game for the season vs. Lake County @ 7! This is a special night for seniors as they will be recognized for their efforts/achievements as a member of the GC Band over the last 4 years in a special ceremony held at6:30. This will also be our seniors last time to perform for their hometown crowd at a football game. We hope that many of you will come out and support our 22 band seniors on Friday! Students must be dressed (full uniform + make-up + hair) at5:30!
Due to Friday being a school day and the day we leave for state all band students will be dismissed from the game on Thursdaynight after halftime. We will travel back to the band room, load uniforms and then students will be dismissed immediately afterwards. This is in an effort to make sure that each student is well rested for Friday!
The final band fee payment of $30 is due THIS FRIDAY! If you have made all of your payments on time then this should complete your band fee payments. If you have more than one child in the band then you are exempt from this final payment.
On Friday we will rehearse from 1:30 until 4 in the stadium. We will load from 4-4:45. We will depart GC @ 4:45 for Murfreesboro with a police escort to the county line. I hope as many of you that can will be a part of the caravan as we leave GC! We will stop for a picnic at exit 108 (Parkers Crossroads Visitor's Center) and we will also have a time of Trunk or Treat since this is Halloween. In order for students to participate in Trunk or Treat they MUST dress up. The restrooms should be open at the Visitor's Center for students to change into their costumes. From there we will leave and travel to the hotel in Murfreesboro. See attached itinerary for exact details for the weekend. If you are not able to travel on Friday night then I hope you all plan to fill the stands on Saturday @ 1:45 to help cheer on the band! There are 23 bands competing for 10 finals competition slots. Those slots will be announced right after the preliminary competition ends. Students will need money for three meals (2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday) unless you preordered a meal for Saturday night at the competition then they will need money for two meals. Ride Home Forms are due no later than Thursday at 5:30 (game day meet time!).
I still have some tickets available for Saturday. At the gate they will be $13/piece for both prelims/finals. I have them for $12/ticket. Just send your money in an envelope marked "State Tickets" with your child's name on it and I will give your child the tickets. Remember if your child loses the tickets then I nor Riverdale HS will be able to replace the tickets. Be sure they keep up with them!
On Sunday students will wake up and eat breakfast. We will have a devotional service in one of the conference rooms at the hotel at 10. All of you are invited to attend. We will have a local youth pastor that Mark Kilpatrick from Dyer has found to speak that morning. Immediately after the devotional service you can check our your child then or you can check them our when we get ready to leave the mall. We will likely have another police escort back in to Dyer from the Gibson County line if you would like to join the caravan!
