Hello All!!! I hope you have had a great weekend and great summer! Below will be the announcements for this coming week and a few days past.
Monday - Full camp day 1-8am - 8:30pm
Tuesday - Full camp day 2-8am - 8:30pm
Wednesday - Full camp day 3-8am - 8:30pm
Thursday - Full camp day 4-8am - 8:30pm
Friday - Full camp day 5-8am - 12pm, DCI Trip 2:30pm
Great job last week on our first week of camp. Tomorrow starts week 2! Make sure you are there before 8am each morning as that is our start time not report time. Whenever you are late, we work on a lap-based system. For every minute you are late, that is an extra lap you run that day. For example. 20 min late = 20 extra laps.
We will have camp every day this week. In the past we have finished everything by Thursday night and gotten done early. For the sake of our sanity and the students, we are not going to rush through material. When we are done on Thursday night we will have something special for the students (no it is not water balloons). Friday will be our last day of camp and the students need to plan to get wet that day if they want to participate at the end of rehearsal.
Please make sure your student eats breakfast! This is the number one reason for students getting sick during camp. Please make sure they have water/Gatorade in their coolers. No soft drinks please! Students may also want to pack a light snack for morning/evening breaks.
PACK YOUR SUNSCREEN! YOU WILL WANT SUNSCREEN FOR YOUR BODY AND YOUR LIPS! A cap is also important! Remember, from last week’s information, students may bring a chair for breaks.
Things you need with you every day at camp:
Instrument
Music
Pencil
White T-shirt with your dot written on it
Comfortable athletic shoes
Dot book
We do have theme days again this year. Below is a list of the theme days:
Monday - Anything But a Water Jug Day ( you still need your water jug)
Tuesday - White Lie Day
Wednesday - Rhyme Without Reason Day
Thursday - Section Colors Day ( check with your section leader for this )
Friday - Sprit Day (GC day)
Points will be collected for each section throughout the week, and there will be an award given to the section with the most points.
Parents, we love to have you guys come out in the evenings when we go outside for our evening block to march and play. Come out and set up your lawn chair and watch what we have learned and see the process of how we put music and drill together. To help those who are working with the show, we kindly as that you do not come up the tower so we can concentrate on the work at hand.
We will have our Color Guard Cafe available only for dinner break this year (4:30-6:00). The meal will be $8 for the students who want to purchase that. I will post a sign-up sheet each morning for students who will purchase the meal so that our mom's cooking can have enough food. Lunch is still on your own.
This Friday we will be going to Murfreesboro to watch the DCI contest. This is best described as professional marching band. Students and parents that signed up need to have their payments turned in before they get on the bus or before we leave on Friday. The cost is $50 for the ticket. There will be concessions there and booths to purchase things from the groups performing. I would say for food a minimum of $20 is needed.
Below you will see a list of things that need to be paid and their dates as of right now. I am going to only include the upcoming band fee as we are a month away from the 3rd one.
Band fee #2 - $100 due by Friday
Uniform top - $96 due by Aug. 7th
Dot book - $20 due by Friday
Rehearsal shirts - $25 due by Aug. 14
Shoes - $56 due by Aug. 14
Guard and percussion sponsors are also due by this Friday. If you do not get all of your sponsors filled then you must pay for your section shirt. All guard and percussion fees are due by Aug. 28th.
Parents, it is very important that all students are at band camp the full time as this is where we will get the bulk of our show learned. When we start school we have a very limited number of rehearsals left. With that being said, if students have appointments please make sure that they are scheduled outside of Tuesdays and Thursdays to accommodate band rehearsals.
If your student has any questions we have a chain of command for them to go through.
Section leaders
Drum majors
Band captains
Staff if none of the others have the answers
With the new season starting, please be aware of office hours for staff. We will reply only within an hour of the ending of school on non-rehearsal days or an hour after rehearsal days. If we receive something after those times, please understand we will not send a response until the next morning once we get back to school. We all also have families and need to spend time with them as well. We are at school and work many more hours than we are at home, especially during the marching season because of Friday night games and Saturday competitions, so we please ask that you respect this time for our sanity and the students.
Peaches will be in on July 23rd and will be ready to pick up as soon as we have the orders separated. Make sure you have someone able to pick these up and a place to keep them cool.
We will be having a pool party at the Rutherford pool on July 28th. This is for all current marching band students. The party will be from 6pm - 8pm.
I think that is all for now. Please expect these emails to be sent out on Sunday evenings or Monday mornings. See everyone bright and early!!!
