· Welcome Back!! Hope you all had a great break!
· Tomorrow/today make sure that you are signed up for Concert band
· This is what you need to have with you every day for band class
o Pencil
o Instrument
o Breathing Valve
o Music
o Black 1/2inch binder with sheet protectors (I will provide)
· UTM Students will receive their music tomorrow.
· Tomorrow starts our spring ensembles. You are allowed two absences per ensemble. There are NO EXCUSED absences for these as they only meet 1 time a week. After your two misses it is up to the discretion of the ensembles director if they keep you in or kick you out. If you are removed from the ensemble you will not get lettering credit for that ensemble. If you are to quit an ensemble at this point you must pay for your portion of the music that has been purchased.
· This Saturday we have All-West auditions. Its quite easy this year as they are held at South Gibson High School. I will give each student who is auditioning their audition times tomorrow.
· I know a lot of us love marching band, but we are limited by who joins/stays in concert band. Concert band is where we learn all of the technique things to be able to play exciting marching shows. It is imperative that you stay and participate in concert band. If you are a leader then it is expected that you stay, after all leaders do not get their position by doing ½ the work. This goes along with the band banquet. There are only two exceptions and that is if you are a color guard member with no instrument to play, a baseball player who has baseball 4th block or a basketball player who has basketball 4th block. If you are one of those who fall under that category, then you will be allowed to come to the band banquet as normal as long as you return for Strawberry and teapot rehearsals and parades. If you just decide not to participate in concert band then you must purchase a ticket from another student to attend. It is the BAND banquet not the MARCHING BAND banquet.
· The music we are working on this semester is much more difficult than anything we played last semester. This is where we really become great musicians. For us to be successful I need each person to spend 2 hours a week practicing. You can break this up however you like but that is what will get us Superiors come concert festival time. This practice needs to take place at home.
· Drum major clinics will be Jan. 16 and 17 and the audition will be Jan. 21. I will pass out the interest form tomorrow to all interested.
