Announcements

• ​It was a great first week of band camp! The hornline/battery has learned the first 7 pages of drill for the show and they spent a lot of time learning marching fundamentals as well as technique! The guard has learned the first 24 pages of drill and have completed the equipment work for the opener and part of the third movement! The percussion section has played through the entire show! Everyone has something he/she can practice, review or work on over the weekend (playing, marching or spinning!!)!

• THANKS to any parent who helped with staff meals this past week! It was greatly appreciated!

• THANKS to Wendy Tate, Kim Todd and all the students who helped unload and sort peaches this past Monday.

• Next week is our FULL WEEK OF BAND CAMP!! The schedule will be as follows (schedule is subject to change depending on weather):

  • 8 a.m.-MEET in band room to check roll and go over announcements-BE ON TIME!

  • 8:15-Hornline, Guard, Battery-Stretch/Run (outside); Front Ensemble is inside for music rehearsal

  • 8:30-H, G, B-Marching fundamentals (outside)

  • 9:00-H, G, B-Learn drill for the show (outside)

  • 11:30-Lunch Break (either bring a lunch to eat in the gym or bring $$ to leave campus for lunch)-They can have lunch brought to them to eat in the gym (students can only get this from you after they have been dismissed for lunch)

  • 1:00-Sectionals/Full Band Music Rehearsal (inside)

  • 4:30-Dinner Break (same as lunch)

  • 6:00-Ensemble time outside (marching and playing)-Everyone including Front Ensemble outside for rehearsal.

  • 8:30-9:00-Dismissal!

• Friday we are scheduled until 5 p.m. but we will stop when the entire show is on the field. This should be lunch on Friday unless rain keeps us in at any point this week.

• You and your family/friends are welcome to watch practice on the practice field each night to hear the beginnings of the show as we begin to put it together for the first time. Bring your yard chairs and enjoy a nice evening with the band family. You will be amazed at how the show develops and improves between now and November!

• Next week will definitely be a full week!! Students need a lot of rest each night, breakfast each morning, SUNSCREEN, water/snacks for the field, money/food for both lunch/dinner breaks, cool clothing (yet modest and appropriate-NO TSHIRTS WITH THE SIDES CUT OUT-BOYS AND GIRLS), tennis shoes, pencil, drill book (optional but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), music, instrument. These are ESSENTIAL materials for camp each day. You might want to include mosquito spray for night rehearsals.

• All students should have paid their $125 band fee by THIS MONDAY unless payment arrangements have been made. Please make every attempt to pay some or all of the $125 ASAP so we can pay the camp staff and our bills in a timely manner. Students should receive a receipt for each payment (within 1-2 days of payment) so be sure to ask for this receipt and maintain it for your records.

• Students will order their shoes, polos and FREE theme shirts on Monday during afternoon sectionals. Discuss sizes with them ahead of time. Polos run extremely big!

• All students need a band polo to be worn during the early (HOT) portion of marching season. These are $15 each and should be paid for before they come in. The polos must be paid for BEFORE he/she will receive it.

• ALL band students must wear the same style/brand of marching shoe which is the black MTX brand marching shoe. If your student does not have a pair to wear or a pair that fits, they will order these Monday when the Drum Majors come around during sectionals. There are old shoes from the past in uniform room for them to try on to be sure about size. Shoes are $36/pair. Once again, payment must be received before a student gets their shoes.

• All band students will receive 1 (one) THEME SHIRT-FREE as part of the uniform. The DM's will get this size on Monday. You will receive a separate order form to purchase extra shirts for your student, yourself, family and friends. DO NOT INCLUDE THE FREE SHIRT ON THIS ORDER OR YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO PAY FOR THE SHIRT. Your student should have this order form to bring home Monday night. Money and orders for additional shirts/polos/hoodies will be due during one of the post-band camp rehearsals. Check the order form for the due date. It is highly recommended that you order your band student an extra theme shirt to wear on Saturdays for contests that follow Friday football games.

• Band Booster Meeting is THIS MONDAY NIGHT @ 7 p.m. in the band room. Make plans to attend as we get ready to kick off the fall marching season!

• Please remember trailer sponsors, guard fees, percussion fees and percussion shirt sponsors. Take care of these items in a timely manner! These are all IN ADDITION to regular band fees!

Upcoming Dates:

• July 21-25 - NO REHEARSALS! Enjoy the week off to rest and relax after camp!

• July 29, 31, August 5th - Post Camp Rehearsals - 6pm-9pm - ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! NOTE: The school's freshman orientation will be on August 5th from 5:30 until 6:30 so we will not start rehearsal on the 5th until 6:30. Freshman will have time to change before having to report to rehearsal.

• Thursday, August 7th - School Starts! Band pictures for the paper will be this day after school. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 from school. They will have a chance to get some lunch. We will meet back and be dressed in uniform at 1:00 pm to start pictures. Pictures should take no more than 1 hour so please make arrangements to pick your child up around 2:00 pm. I know this isn't convenient for you working parents but it's when the paper had to do it in order to get the football program printed in time for the first game.

• Monday, August 11th - Regular after school rehearsals begin! Check the calendar on the website or the handbook as the when/where/how long these rehearsals take place. All after school rehearsals are MANDATORY and are a part of your student's grade for the band class!

• Monday, August 18th - 1st memorization test over the opener. Students MUST memorize the opener from beginning to end with a passing grade in order to march at the game the following Friday night.

• Thursday, August 21st - Preview Night/Dodge Booster Drive! 6:30 pm - Stadium - This is your first chance to see the fall 2014 show. Invite your friends and family out to this event!

• Friday, August 22nd - 1st Home Football Game!​
