Concert Band has started. Below is a list of the items you need at EVERY REHEARSAL:
· Instrument
· Music
· Pencil
· Black Binder with music
· Method book
· Great attitude ready to give 110% every rehearsal!!!
I know a lot of us think that concert band isn't important, but it is where we get a chance to make music without having to constantly be worried about competing or being judged. Concert band is where we developed our techniques for the marching season. We all love playing more exciting music but that doesn't happen without the skills learned in concert band. I also will not be giving leadership positions to anyone who does not do both concert band and marching band. Leaders do not do half of the work and expect to be rewarded.
Reminder that to attend the band banquet you must be in both marching band and concert band. Exceptions: color guard who do not play an instrument at all and students who have a sport 4th block.
This semester we will be utilizing a method book for warm ups and general band tuning. These are $13 and is due by this coming Wednesday.
Our small ensembles will start tomorrow. These will meet every week at the same time that we are in school. If we are out there MIGHT be a make up day for that rehearsal depending at the directors discretion. The attendance policy for these are as follows:
· If you were signed up before Christmas break then you are in the ensemble and music has been bought. If you decided to quit once we came back then you owe for your portion of that music.
· You are allowed 2 absences total and that is it to still get credit for that ensemble. Since these groups meet only once a week it is important to be there. After those two absences it is up to the director of that ensemble if they want to let you continue in that group. There are no excused or unexcused absences for these, there are just absences.
The directors for these ensembles are as follows:
· Jazz Band - Mr. Leslie
· Percussion - Mr. Abbott
· Tuba Ensemble - Mr. Agee
· Sax Ensemble - Mr. Leslie
Each Student has been given a black binder with their name on the front. These are the schools binders and the students are responsible for them. If they lose it or destroy it then it must be replaced. These are for them to keep their music in. These are required during class every day.
Just a quick reminder that ALL PERFORMANCES ARE REQUIRED. If you miss a performance for an unexcused reason then you will fail the semester. This is stated in the handbook that everyone signed at the beginning of the year.
Our first of two basketball games is this coming Friday. Call time is 5:00 in the band room. This Friday at the basketball game we also have to run concessions. This is our last game of the season for this and we need at minimum 8 other adults to work. The students will not be able to help with this as they will be performing at both the girls game and the guys game. We need you there!!!!!
UTM Room money is due by this coming Friday. If you have not paid for your room by the time we leave for UTM then you will not be allowed to attend.
Memphis Honor Band students will receive their room cost tomorrow. Make sure you have something to audition for your chair placement.
All-West registration was due before Christmas break and I still have 1 or 2 who have not paid. That needs to be turned in asap. Room costs for this will be given out Wednesday.
There are still students that have not paid their band debts for the fall. As of this point on no student will be allowed to continue in marching band with a debt from the previous year. If you owe when our first rehearsal takes place in May then you will not be allowed to attend. If you miss two of those 3 rehearsals then you lose your spot on the field. Right now we are sitting at $12,000 in debt for band debt from the fall. We cannot function with this type of debt. If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will send you your debt.
Those of you that are going to Disney will be receiving an email very soon about room assignments and things of that nature. The Final payment is due Feb. 6th. As of right now there are 35 caught up on those payments and 35 who are not.
