Announcements:
Thanks to all those who came out to the game this past Friday! It's really makes for a better performance for our kids when you guys cheer the way that you did this past Friday. I hope that many of you will begin to plan how you're all going to sit together and do the same thing at all of the competitions that we travel to this year. It really does make a difference!
A lot of great pictures of our students have been taken and placed on the band's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/273967556115889/). You are welcome to join the group to see the photos. Thanks to all of you who have contributed! If you have taken any pictures, we would love to have them uploaded to the facebook page.
All show music memorization tests are complete and all grades have been recorded in PowerSchool so you can see how your child performed.
The hornline will have a Memorization Test over "Amazing Grace" during their sectional time THIS TUESDAY! Be sure your student has it memorized.
Band/guard shoes are in! Only students who have paid for his/her shoes will receive them! We will wear them for the first time NEXT FRIDAY NIGHT (8th).
If you have gotten any trophy sponsors for the competition to help with your student's September trip payment then these are due by THIS FRIDAY so that Rhonda can get a check in the mail to Thomas Tours by Tuesday the 5th! Form is attached if you need another one. Any trophy sponsor received after Friday will be credited towards the October trip payment. THE ABSOLUTE DEADLINE TO TURN IN ANY TROPHY SPONSOR IS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH!
The September Band Fee Payment of $30 is due THIS FRIDAY! A lot of the band's bills are due on the first so if you are on the band fee payment schedule please make every effort to pay your band fee on Thursday so that the band can ensure that it can pay all of its bills on the first as well!
This Friday we play at home against Halls @ 7:00. We will meet in the band room at 6:00. The attire for this Friday will be the same as last Friday (polos, khaki shorts/pants, and tennis shoes). I know this is a holiday weekend but this is still a MANDATORY performance and will affect a student's grade if he/she is not at the game!
Remember ALL band students need to be picked up BEHIND the school from all band events so we can ensure that each student has been picked up.
Continue to download and take a look at All-West Music at http://gchsmarchingpioneers.org under the "forms and practice tools" tab. If you don't have a printer at home I will be more than happy to print off a copy for your student at school. Simply have them ask me to print them a copy. Auditions are not until January so a little bit of practice time now will really increase your child's chances of making one of the All West bands when auditions take place in January!
Hopefuly each of you are planning to come and help out at our marching contest that will be held on Saturday, September 30th @ GC! The contest, right now, is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am and finals awards are slated for some time around 10 pm. It will be a full day and we need your help! Contact Kim Todd at dokitodd@live.com to get plugged in for this event!
We will begin selling Braided Bread next Tuesday (5th) as a general fund fundraiser. I know we are doing a lot of fundraisers for the NYC Trip but it's also important that we are able to pay our regular bills that go along with running a successful band program like ours. Each student will be asked to sell at least 6 loaves of bread or get $30 in donations. Order forms and deadlines will be sent out in next week's announcements.
ATTENTION SENIORS & SENIOR PARENTS: The state scholarship application deadline is October 1st! You do NOT have to be a music major in college to apply for this money. I am still awaiting Riverdale HS to release the application but students can go ahead and start preparing 2 etudes for the application. 1 etude needs to be fast to show technique and the other etude needs to be slow and lyrical to showoff musicality. I will get the application out to you as soon as I receive it but you can go ahead and start preparing etudes in the meantime. Don't procrastinate and wait until the last minute. The longer you wait the lower quality your audition will be which equals less money offered!
Upcoming Dates:
Labor Day is NEXT MONDAY! NO SCHOOL! NO REHEARSALS!
Next Tuesday (5th) we will have full band rehearsal from 3-5 and then EVERYONE will have sectionals (all winds, guard, and percussion) from 5-6!

Monday, September 11th - Band Booster Meeting - 7:00 pm - Band Room. We need EVERYONE if possible to attend this last meeting that we will have BEFORE our contest that we will hold on September 30th!
