Announcements:
Thanks to everyone who lined the streets of Dyer last night at the Christmas Parade to help cheer on the band!
Thanks to everyone who came and picked up their fruit/nuts in a timely manner this past Wednesday! I hope all of your customers were satisfied with their fruit/nuts.
Mr. Congiardo will continue his lessons THIS TUESDAY!
Those students who are trying out for All-West in January start their lessons with me THIS WEEK! Lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday of this week depending on the time the student signed up for. Students MUST complete 4 successful lessons in order audition for All-West in January. If a student misses a lesson he/she must make up that lesson.
A debt list from this past fall was posted this past week on the band office window. Encourage your student to check the list to make sure that it's accurate. All debts must be paid by Friday, December 18th (Christmas Break) or they will be turned in to the office for collection. As of this past Thursday the band had over $6000 in outstanding debt. Please make every effort to pay your debts in a timely manner so the band boosters can pay their bills on time. Seniors who do not pay their debts off by graduation will not receive his/her diploma. Freshmen-Juniors will NOT be allowed to attend the first June rehearsal until all debt from previous years has been paid in full.
The County Wide Band Christmas Concert will be held NEXT SUNDAY (13th) in the theatre at GC. The concerts begin at 2:00 pm with the 6th grade combined bands, 2:20 middle school band #1, 2:40 middle school band #2 (not sure their order), followed by the high school band at 3:00. Please reserve seating for ONLY parents/family/friends of students who are on stage performing at the above given times so that everyone has a chance to see their child perform. All high school students MUST be in the band room at 1:15 in "Sunday-like" attire. This means NO JEANS, TSHIRTS, SHORTS, TENNIS SHOES, ETC. This is a MANDATORY PERFORMANCE grade for all high school band members! High school students will have to move all equipment back to the band room at the conclusion of the concerts before they will be dismissed. I hope that many of you will make it out to support the bands of Gibson County on Sunday!
There will be a brief band booster meeting immediately following the high school concert in the theatre. I hope that many of you will stay and be a part as your student is moving equipment back to the band room.
The band FINAL EXAM begins NEXT MONDAY! This is worth 20% of your student's grade for the entire semester! Be sure they are prepared!
The Spring Jazz Band Sign-up Sheet was posted this past week. Jazz Band meets on most Mondays during the spring with the exception of a few Wednesday from 3:15-4:30 in the band room. All students who are interested in being a part of the jazz band should sign up on the list on the band office window. There is a handout with a list of rehearsal dates/times located on the band room table. A student does not have to be in Concert Band in the spring in order to sign up for jazz band. All questions should be directed to Mr. Brockman concerning the jazz band. Jazz band rehearsals will begin the week of January 11th. The jazz band is lettering credit opportunity.
The Spring Percussion Ensemble will also begin the week of January 11th. Percussion Ensemble is open to ANYONE who is interested in learning a percussion instrument (not just percussionists).
